Along with Navratri which kickstarts today begins Durga Puja also called as Durgoutsav to be celebrated by Bengali across the nation and even beyond the borders. This festival is celebrated parallel to Navratri, marking the birth of goddess Durga and her arrival to fight the demons by transforming into different forms till the tenth day. This year it will celebrated from October 4 to October 8 by the people belonging to the Bengali community. Let's begin by giving you in-depth info about the same.
It will begin from the sixth day of Navratri festival and will go on till the ninth day. On the first day of Durga Puja, idol of Durga will be brought home or in the pandals along with lord Ganesha’s idol, followed by worshipping them. The idols are decorated with clothes, jewellery and red vermillion. Followed by which prayers are offered and sweets are kept for the deities. On the seventh day of Navratri, a small banana plant is bathed and wrapped in red-bordered sari and worshipped by placing it next to the idols in the pandals.
Asthami is a huge affair for the once performing Durga Puja, puja muhurat begins on 09:50 on October 5, 2019 and ends on 10:54 on October 6, 2019. On this day unmarried girls are worshipped by washing their feets, applying alata and then serving them food.
Followed by Navami which marks the end of prayers and puja rituals and then immersion of goddess on Vijaya Dashami which is also called Dusshera.
